Hi,

I was recommended to this club by someone called James who flys a raptor 60. I wanted to get into rc heli flying for a long time and I have a couple of helis... in fact, 4... electric helis... Eco 8, Modelsport Hornet, Honey Bee King and a humming bird!.... I attempted to fly these to no avail.... So finally I was recommended to a raptor 60 which I bought used but I have bought some mods too.... I think it must share some pretty similar parts to a raptor 90... Got an OS70 engine which I belive should be pretty decent... I was told it was a good beginner's heli too as it is stable... Got the beginners bars too.... Also bought the Futaba 8FG which is the most expensive I want to invest in for now as I belive that is quite future proof... I also bought a trainer lead too! Hopefully someone can help and educate me on how to fly :) So just wondering, when is the best time to come? Are you guys flying on Saturday and Sunday?

Cheers!
T

Hi Ace, The Raptor 60 is a great reliable heli and it's nice and stable, Although when your learning it could be more expensive to fix when you have a bump. Most of the parts on a Raptor 60 are the same as on a 90 the only difference with the 90 is a longer tail boom and bigger blades possibly different gearing aswell, I also use the Futaba 8FG which is a great Tx, Nice and comfortable and not to heavy. The best time for Heli fliers is Early on Sunday morning although it's been really quiet recently, I'll be more than happy to help out when i'm there.

Cheers James... I guess u aren't the same james as the one I know since you don't use the 14MZ :) Well, I got my heli today... bought the 90 SE decals too.... just think it looks nicer... I got the Hitec 7 with this particular ebay deal but as I said, i am getting the 8FG... Do you happen to have a trainer/ connection which will allow me to practice with you? Also, I got fuel 20% which midlandhelicopters recommended but my fuel pump is with my 8FG order which should have arrived today but now not until monday! Any chance I can borrow the fuel pump if I come round? Are you going this Sunday and what would be the best time to come? I have all my training gear etc ready but is it dangerous to do 1st attempt without trainer connection? Also, I bought CF main and tail blades... Not arrived yet but the kit came with wooden blades... does it make any difference performance wise? I bought it more for looks... But I might put wooden blades on first if that can get damaged easy when crashing although it didn't look like it on the videos i saw...

Hi again, the Hitec 7 will be great until you get your Futaba 8FG, Unfortunately Don't have a trainer lead and I wouldn't recommend using the trainer lead on a heli as you would need to be really quick to catch it if something went wrong but with a plane you have more thinking time. Optifuel 20% is the fuel i use which is great and than enough for 3D flying aswell, I'm sure we have a spare fuel pump you could use until you got yours aswell. Best time would be around 11am or 12ish. I'm not sure if Me and my Dad will be there yet, it all depends on the weather. If i were you i would put the wood blades on to start with incase you have a bump as there alot cheaper. Wood blades are absolutely fine for learning and general flying around, But when you start getting into 3D and such you need the carbon fibre blades as the woodies would break.

Thanks for the reply. The heli came with the hitech 425bb and 525bb servos but I read somewhere that the Futaba 9202 is a good servo so got 4 of them and it came with a 401 gyro... The heli iteself cost £420 and the servo was used too of £85 posted for 4 9202 servos... so almost £500 for a fully flying raptor 60... think I got a good deal... I bought about £250 of 'upgraded parts' and also got the 8FG + reciever which is about £300... all in all, about £1k i've spent... quite a lot for a used heli lol

although my 8FG and upgraded parts are all new... and got the starter was included in the £420 too...

Great:). Ive heard of hitec servos before although not 425bb or 525bb but i'm sure they would be fine, Futaba 9202 is a great servo and would do fine although when you get to 3D level they become to slow then it's time to upgrade. The tail Gyro is the most important part of the heli IMO, 401 is a great choice of gyro it will keep the tail nice and solid. The Raptor 60 is a great heli i've never heard of anything fail on them even just stock out of the box, I'm sure you will enjoy it.:P

So did you go today James?

I was reading

http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t127849p1/?highlight=Raptor+tail+rotor+grip

I was trying to install the upgrade, aluminium tail rotor grip.... and I saw that these 2 screws is projected outwards... is that a good thing or is that the one which caused the faliure? Any other problems with the raptor 60 I should be looking out for ?

Hi Ace, We didn't go as my dad had things to do so we didn't get the chance. To be honest i don't think it's worth upgrading as the Raptor 60 is good out of the box, And i'm not entirely sure how the upgrade goes together.. Maybe someone can point you in the right direction here as theres a few Raptor 60 owners in the club.

Hey James... I was referng to Sunday... I saw the James I know today who I belive is refered to as 'Jay' in the club... Apparently he was there on Sunday and I think he said you were asking him about me after I posted in the forums lol... Jay thinks VERY highly of yourself and I was showing him this:

http://www.thundertiger-tv.de/video/1281/alon-barak---raptor-90-3d

And he said, aye, 'Young James' can do that no problem lol... I guess you are almost a pro from the sound of things! Just got my 8FG today too but the insturction manuals is so thick so I will prob need to you tell me how to work it out... I will connect the R6008HS reciever to the heli 2moroz and hopefully will be connected properly!

I will be round the club after work on Thursday prob just before 3 and maybe on Friday about 1PM... Jay said he will be there. You gonna be there or will you be at school/ work ? I got 2 gallons of 20% nitro fuel. I phoned midland helis and they told me 1 gallon will last me 1 hour of flying which sounds bit short... should I bring both my tanks of fuel or would that be an overkill? As I said, the heli I bought is 2nd hand so the OS70 will have been broken in

Hi Ace, I would bring the 2 gallons of fuel just incase. Especially when you're running the engine in or breaking in whatever you want to call it, it eats through the fuel quickly as you're running it really rich. If i remember right the instruction manual for the Futaba 8FG wasn't very good but i'm sure my dad will be able to help you out as he does the setup on my heli;). I'm hoping we will be there on friday as the weather is looking pretty good at the moment.

Folks can't really say if they will be up or not, it is pretty weather dependent. If it isn't teeming down with rain I will be up after lunch. There will be folks there all day on Friday as we prepare for the fireworks party.

Feel free to come along to that, it starts at 7.00pm sharp.

Even if the weather isn't great bring the heli up and we can check it out in the cabin.

I was up but got soaked and left early. Hopefully you found Jay in the Cabin hiding from the rain. Don't worry about fees, just get familiar and comfortable with the way the club runs before deciding to sign up. The main issue is that we can't promise to be there at specific times. Once you are hovering comfortably this isn't an issue because you will have a key and can come practice whenever you want.

You will find heli fliers at the club most decent weekday afternoons, Sat afternoons and Sundays all day.

The fees will be payable once you decide to join, inbetween times you can have some trial flights under supervision.

Once you decide you really do want to stand outside in the freezing cold for hours on end trying to keep a heli in the sky then you can pay the fees. £30 joining, £70 club and insurance, a total of £100 for the initial year, then £70 pa.
