Hi all,

A number of us are playing with the Phoenix flight simulator which allows you to fly a virtual model on a virtual flying site using your own transmitter connected to a computer.

To do this you need a copy of Phoenix, a Phoenix "dongle" to plug into a USB slot on your computer and a suitable transmitter (probably the one you use at the field). There are some good buys about and I don't want to publish them here, but talk to me, George, Kenny,Alex, Alastair or any of the others who've gone down this route before you buy.

One of our members (Chemicalbro) has modelled our own field, so you can download this and fly at Cumbernauld. Although there are some small issues with this "home made" version (landing is difficult, if not impossible), it gives a good representation of our site.

Another feature of Phoenix is that you can join online with others and all fly at the same site. So it is quite feasable to go online, find a CMFC "room" and join in the flying. This could be at our field but often is elsewhere. Once you've joined, you are able to see other people's planes and communicate with them via a microphone or by typing on your keyboard.

This forum section is to help people communicate about Flight Simulators and pass information. It should also help people get started.

this sounds quite good, will hopefully be up the field tomorrow and get the low down on what to order and where so I can participate in this tomfoolery.

im about to get back into the flying game shortly...... was working too much to partake last season

I will have to redo the phoenix flying site at some time and sort out the issues

its great for helis but pretty bad for planes, as there are a few collision problems on the runway.

does anybody have a digital SLR?

I sold all of my camera gear last year . (stupidest thing i've ever done :))

all i have now is a little kodak point and shoot

I would really like to do the flying field from scratch with new higher resolution photos.

I will start by attempting to repair the current files.

can members please report issues to me so I have a better idea of what needs fixing.
